Wash & Care

Wash cold at 30 degrees, inside out, with similar colours. Skip bleach and fabric softener.

Air dry rather than tumble. Heat is what cracks prints and shrinks heavyweight cotton. Iron on the reverse only, never across a graphic.

Product Details

The Essentials 1977 T Shirt Black is the cheapest way into the line that made Essentials recognisable. Black cotton, tonal 1977 mark on the chest, cut to the same boxy pattern as the hoodies.

The 1977 mark on a tee

1977 is Jerry Lorenzo's birth year and the number the brand built its identity around. On a heavier tee it works differently from a hoodie, because there is no fleece loft to soften the print. It sits flat and sharp, and on black it reads as a subtle mark rather than a slogan.

The cut is the whole point

Most brands treat a tee as a filler product. Essentials cuts this to the same wide, short pattern as its outerwear, which is why it layers properly instead of bunching. It is a tee designed to be seen under other things.

Fit and sizing

  • Boxy through the chest with a short body length
  • Dropped shoulder seams
  • Heavier cotton than a standard tee, so it holds its shape
  • True to size within the oversized cut
  • Available in S, M, L and XL

How to layer it

Under an open overshirt, under a gilet, or on its own with straight cargos. The short body means it will not hang below a cropped jacket, which is the mistake most oversized tees make.

Care

  • Cold wash at 30 degrees, inside out, with darks
  • Hang dry, since heat shrinks a short body where you notice it most
  • Iron on the reverse only, never across the print
  • No bleach and no softener
