Why Water Shorts Make Sense for Stussy

Stussy started with surfboards, so water shorts are closer to the brand's origin than almost anything else it makes. Shawn Stussy was shaping boards in Laguna Beach before he printed a single t shirt. A quick-drying short is not a seasonal add-on here, it is the category the label came from.

The practical case is straightforward. Water shorts use a synthetic fabric that sheds water instead of holding it, so they dry in minutes rather than staying heavy. An elasticated waist with a drawcord means no belt and no pressure points when you sit down. That combination works for swimming, but it also makes them the most comfortable option for a hot day when you are nowhere near water.

The Three Styles

All three run the same silhouette and differ only in how the branding is handled, so the choice comes down to how visible you want the logo.

The Big Basic Water Short carries the largest logo treatment of the three and is the one that reads as Stussy from a distance. The Curly S version uses the flowing signature script instead, which is the more understated option. The Sport short leans into the athletic side with a cleaner, smaller mark. Black across all three.

Fit, Sizing and Care

US sizing with a relaxed cut, sitting around mid-thigh. The elasticated drawcord waist covers a reasonable range within each size, so these are more forgiving than a fixed-waist short. Order your usual size.

Rinse in fresh water after swimming, particularly after the sea or a chlorinated pool, because salt and chlorine both break down synthetic fabric over a season. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry in shade. Never tumble dry and never iron: heat damages the water-repellent finish and can melt synthetic fibres outright.
