Why Shorts Outsell Everything Else Here

With most streetwear labels the hoodie leads and shorts are an afterthought. Denim Tears is the opposite: shorts are the most searched category the brand has in the UK, and it is not close.

Two reasons. The first is price. A pair of sweat shorts is the cheapest way to own a piece carrying the cotton wreath, and for a label whose denim runs into the high hundreds that gap matters. The second is the print itself. The wreath is a circular motif, and it sits better on a short leg than almost anywhere else on a garment. Match the colour exactly for the co-ord look, or run a plain tee against a bright short so the wreath only appears once in the fit. The second reads better on most people, and it means the shorts still work with things you already own.

Fit

Relaxed through the thigh, sitting around mid-thigh to just above the knee depending on your height. The waist is elasticated with a drawcord, so there is give within each size and the fit is more forgiving than a fixed waistband.

Order your usual size. These are not cut oversized, so sizing up gains length you probably do not want rather than the baggier leg some people are after. If you are between sizes, the drawcord means sizing down is usually the safer call.

Keeping the Colour

Bright colours are the whole appeal here and they are also the first thing to go. Wash inside out at thirty degrees with similar shades, and wash the pink and red pairs separately for the first two cycles, because saturated dyes release early and will find a white tee in the same load.

Skip fabric softener, which dulls both the colour and the print texture over time. Air dry rather than tumble. Heat fades dye faster than daylight does and it is the main reason a bright short looks tired after a season when it should look fine after three.
