The Most Searched Hoodie in UK Streetwear

One garment from one brand pulls more UK search volume than most labels manage across their entire catalogue. That is unusual enough to be worth explaining rather than just claiming.

Jerry Lorenzo launched Essentials in 2018 as a lower-priced sister line to Fear of God, and the hoodie became the piece the whole thing turned on. It gave people the Fear of God silhouette, the oversized body, the dropped shoulder, the heavy fleece, at a price that did not require saving up for months. Vogue described the line as a competitively priced sister label, and that positioning is exactly why the hoodie went everywhere.

It also made Essentials the most counterfeited brand in streetwear. Two tells separate the real thing quickly: fabric weight and the logo. Genuine hoodies use heavyweight cotton fleece with real substance to it, and the chest logo is a raised rubberised appliqué you can feel with a thumb. Fakes run thin and print the logo flat.

Getting the Fit Right First Time

Buttercream and green also appear, and there is a shortened 77 variant that keeps the reference without spelling out the full year.

FOG State and Fraternity

Both borrow American collegiate language, and the difference is the typography. State uses a clean block wordmark and runs across grey, black, white, military and olive. Fraternity leans into Greek-letter styling and sticks to bolder shades: black, crimson and purple. If you want the collegiate reference without the loud colour, State is the one. Fraternity is for when the hoodie is meant to be the whole fit.

Embossed Relief and Gold Heather

These two are the quiet end of the range and the more interesting half. Embossed Relief presses the logo into the fabric rather than printing on top, so the branding reads by texture and shadow instead of contrast. Gold Heather uses a flecked yarn that gives the fleece depth up close. Both come in black, grey, white and neutral tones. Buy either if you want the brand recognised by people who know it and invisible to everyone else.

Athletics and Cotton-Blend Jersey

Athletics runs a sportswear-styled logo across light grey, white and black, sitting closer to a gym hoodie than the rest of the line. The Cotton-Blend Jersey pieces are the lightest fleece Essentials makes, which makes them the ones that work indoors and through spring rather than only in winter. Bean green, grey and yellow give that line the widest colour spread in the range.

Gallery Dept Hoodies

The Gallery Dept pieces bring José Thomas's Los Angeles label into the range, and they behave differently to the mainline. Distressed treatment, a more worn-in finish, and the smallest production numbers here. Dark grey and grey are what we hold. Black or Grey, and What Else Is Worth It

Black is the most searched Essentials hoodie colour by a distance, with grey second. Black holds the rubberised logo with the sharpest contrast and goes with everything, which is why it is the default first buy for most people.

Grey is the better second. The heather flecking shows the fleece texture properly and softens the whole piece in daylight. Beyond those two, Essentials builds its reputation on muted neutrals rather than brights: buttercream, oatmeal tones, sand, olive and brown all appear across the lines. Protecting the Logo

The rubberised chest logo is the part that fails first if you treat these like a normal hoodie. Heat is what does it: hot washes and tumble drying make the appliqué lift at the edges and eventually crack, and once it goes there is no fixing it.
