Why grey outsells everything but black

Black hides the emblem. Grey shows it. On a marl ground the Alcatraz island reads clearly without the contrast getting harsh, which is why the grey sets tend to go before the brighter ones. It is also the easiest Corteiz colour to wear next to things that are not Corteiz.

The one drawback of grey marl

Grey marl shows sweat more than any other colour and it picks up lint from anything darker in the wash. Neither is a reason not to buy it, but both are reasons to wash it on its own rather than throwing it in with towels.

• Hang dry rather than tumble, to protect the print and the cuffs
