The Trapstar Irongate Collar Puffer Jacket Black is the silhouette most people picture when they think of Trapstar outerwear. Panelled body, a high padded collar instead of a hood, and the Irongate T across the chest.
The Irongate T, and why it carries the jacket
Irongate is the closest thing Trapstar has to a crest. It came out of the West London the label was built in, and it has stayed on the brand's outerwear since the first shop opened in 2010. On black the baffles catch light unevenly, so the logo reads sharp against the panels rather than flat.
Collar or hood
This one zips to the jaw and the collar stands on its own. It sits flatter under a seatbelt and it does not bunch when you wear a bag across the body. Take the hooded Irongate instead if you want head cover in rain.
Fit and sizing
- Cut roomy through the body so a hoodie fits underneath
- True to size for most people, so take your usual
- Boxy rather than long, finishing around the hip
- Elasticated cuffs and hem to hold heat in
- Available in S, M, L and XL
How warm it actually is
This is a British winter jacket, not a transitional layer. Baffled fill runs through the body and sleeves, the collar closes the neck off completely, and there is enough room for a heavy hoodie without losing arm movement.
Care
- Cold wash on a gentle cycle, zipped up, pockets emptied
- No fabric softener, which clogs fill and kills loft
- Tumble on low with dryer balls, which redistributes the fill properly
- Store on a hanger with space around it, never compressed in a bag
